Are Networking Groups Right For You?

Author: jparker Date: August 2007

The Networking Group

Business networking seems to be all the rave in recent years. But does a networking group really help your business generate more sales? Like many things in life and business, “it all depends”. Joining a business networking group can be beneficial as long as you keep certain things in mind.

Background

The key to generating more sales is identifying your target audience and then making them aware of the products and services. The more there are aware of what you provide the greater your chances of generating a sale.

Of course, the more people in your target audience that can identify your product, the more likely you are to make a sale. Business networking groups provide this opportunity. The groups are usually filled with business owners, executives and/or sales people who are looking for the same thing you are: to extend the awareness of their products, meet new prospects and generate sales either directly or indirectly through referrals.

Networking groups can be an excellent source for small businesses and the entrepreneur to expand their contact base. Different groups will have different rules, membership requirements, and costs. Some groups are “exclusive”, preferring to limit membership to only one member from a specific industry. Groups often meet weekly or monthly at an established venue or sometimes rotate meetings at member offices.

The Good
A good networking group provides the member with an opportunity to expand their contact base while learning to pin-point the delivery of their marketing message. In this group, the member is provided the opportunity to “try” their sales pitch on an audience that can provide constructive criticism. In addition, the member gains support and continued focus, by interacting with like minded individuals.
